Pikiran gue yang suka lari-lari...
Sometimes as I was watching the telly my mind would wonders off the screen and think of something else, and just now I was thinking about why do I like all these various songs which I don't understand the lyrics let alone what's its all about. Is this just a seasonal thing for me or would I still be crazy on Mando-pop, K-pop & J-pop this time next year?
The truth is I really hope so, coz, not to sound so snobbish, I don't have that high opinion on Indonesa's music today. I prefer them more ten years ago when they're still 'real', these days only a few bands that I really admired (SO7, Padi, Gigi)
I've been hearing lots of european or american music through out my years and accustomed more to that than any other music. And now all these artists and their music from Asia have been filling my ears and i can appriciate them more than i would have couple of years ago. i'm so glad that they opened my eyes and ears to another world of good music. moreover, I'm so glad that I'm not so narrow minded that I wouldn't even tried to listen to them in the first place.
In this case I guess as funny as it may seems I had to thank the F4 and the whole Meteor Garden phenomenal, because they're the one who opened 'the gate' for me this this world of Mando, K and J-pop. Sure I've listened to japanese pop songs before but nothing compare to what I've been doing or listening to these days.
Like most countries there are some artist that makes you go 'huh?' or even 'eww' but there were plenty of real talents too. The Korean (male) singers really blows my mind, most of the musician who are in the R&B path have a really really soulful voices (Kang Ta, Fly to the Sky, Wheesung, Lena Park to name a few) and the Japanese the same although in this case I much prefer the male musician. No fence to the female singers but voices like Hamasaki really turned me off, but thumbs up for Utada Hikaru & Mika Nakashima. At this moment in time my J-pop are still limited, but I love
Chemistry these duo's voice are just amazing. Then there are Rip-Slyme, Kuwata, Ken Hirai and some other musician which names escape me for now..gomen!
Moving on to Mando-pop, because my cable have the MTV Mandarin channel I'm able to follow the music that's on today in Taiwan (HongKong & Singapore) and it quite amazes me how many good artist there are and how much new artist keeps coming up. If that's not enough they usually doubled as actor/actress as well. That little country has talent more than
gula merah yang ada didalam kelepon. If you've been reading my blog you'd know some of those musician are.
My hope for myself is that in the near future I'll be able to take a Mandarin language course so that I can understand the music better lyrically. And that this is not just a seasonal flavour of the year thing, but something that I'd be able to always follow, because truly music is just part of me even if I'm not a musician. My life my would just so black and white with them . And I also hope that more people around me won't shut their ears and have an open mind about these Asian music, because there are a lot of rich music and talented musician out there from all over the corner of this world, and if they're just staying put, they loss a big thing. Trust me.
